FAQ

Car transport in India - the questions worth asking

What is car transport and how does it work in India?

Car transport is the movement of a vehicle between two cities on a carrier truck rather than driving it. A carrier collects the vehicle, secures it on a deck with the other cars it is carrying, and delivers it to the destination city. The car arrives with no additional kilometres on the odometer and no wear from a long unfamiliar drive.

What is the difference between an open and an enclosed carrier?

An open carrier is the standard multi-car deck used for most vehicles, and it is the most economical option on any corridor over 400 km. An enclosed carrier is fully sealed against weather, dust and road debris, and costs roughly 35% more. Enclosed makes sense for luxury, vintage, imported or freshly painted vehicles.

How much does car transport cost in India?

Short corridors under 500 km run ₹6,000 – ₹8,000 for a hatchback. Long-haul routes over 1,800 km run ₹13,500 – ₹17,500 for an SUV. Distance, body type and carrier type are the three variables that matter. Our full rate table is published on this page.

What documents do I need for car transportation?

A copy of the Registration Certificate, a valid insurance certificate, your ID proof, and an authorisation letter if you are not present at pickup. We prepare the transport documentation and issue a GST invoice. For inter-state movements we handle the entry paperwork where a state requires it.

Should I empty the fuel tank before transport?

For road carriers we ask for roughly a quarter tank - enough to load and unload, not so much that it adds weight. For Indian Railways parcel movements the tank must be virtually empty, under one or two litres, which is a regulatory requirement rather than a preference.

How do I check whether a car transport company is genuine?

Ask three questions: do they coordinate the move themselves or are they reselling your enquiry, will they put the quote in writing before pickup, and can they name the crew handling your vehicle. A company that will not answer all three is a broker. Also check that the GST number on the invoice matches the business you booked with.

No callback queue, no bidding war between five transporters. One dispatch desk that knows the corridor.
